Mise en scene is encompass the most recognizable attributes of film -the setting and characters; it includes costumes and make up, props on the set and all the natural artificial details that characterize the spaces filmed, mise en scene is a French word which means “put into a scene “   mise en scene describes structure and the way it is shown and arranged, location, lighting and colours are put of mise en scene as well.

Lighting

Lighting help to express mood and the atmosphere within the film scene, it can also guide the audience’s attention to particular object and the person emotion or the gestures used in the film which can help the audience understand the characters in the film, lighting can also be use to cast shadows  and build tension and suspense.

High-key lighting

High key lighting is often used in romantic movies comedies and musical, encompassing an even lighting pattern and avoiding dark area in the surrounding. Everything looks bright with little to no shadow at all. High key lighting appears more natural which has little dramatic effect, and it also often used in a scene without no tension.

Example of high lighting we notice how the scene is openly lighted throughout; there’s no dark spot in the picture the audience can clearly see the characters straight away.

An example of the common use of high key lighting is the wizard of oz which is a musical films this because the audience can clearly see the bright lighting straight way. This allows the audience to connect with characters in the scene.

Low key lighting is often used in thrillers and horror movies consist of a lighting pattern that has both bright and dark area in the surrounding. Low key light fill light is at a very low level causing the frame to be cast with large shadows. This cause stark between the darker and lighter part framed image and for much of subjects of the shot to be hidden behind the shadows, the lighting is most effective in gangster films, thrillers and horror films, as a very dark and mysterious atmosphere is created from the obscuring light.

An example of low key lighting is used in this image we can only see the dark image through our screen as the audience cant see the characters face they can  straight away tell that this character is not a good character as low key lighting mainly focus on his clothing this creates mysterious for the audience.

Angels of lighting 

Under lighting is when the key source of light comes from beneath the subject this has a tendency of having a altering effect on the subject that is being lit up, under lighting is mainly used in thriller and horror films. It is able to bright up the subjects as well as parts of the background. 

Top lighting is when the main source of light is placed at above angle over heading the subjects to focus on the features and expression of the characters. It can be used to create glamorous effects on characters.

Back-lighting is when the light source is placed behind subjects, if little or a limited amount of light is used the angle of lighting can create shadows and silhouettes of the characters appearing in the screen.

low key lighting is dramatic effect here as it reflects on the atmosphere and the characters in this clip: it creates a scary gloomy effect  that signifies danger or tension and action  for the audience who are unaware of the film and characters  the light demonstrate  their personality  most  characters are wearing all  black and dark lighting compliments this a lot.    

high key lighting shown inside the toilet scene compared to outside where the party is with a much darker light, the lighting is escalated to a higher key lighting in able to show  the interaction between  the two characters and shows a facial expression and body language of the characters clearly, sometimes high key lighting is not viable on screen the use of lights in this scene are shown as mise en scene in the toilet to make the audience believe  that the toilet is already been lit up.
