Post-production: Soundtrack of the thriller production
Sound is important elements within the creation of films. This is because it sets the whole mood and atmosphere of the film. It's very important to plan out the sounds we will use simply because the sounds causes the audience to either to be connected to the film or vigilante in knowing that their watching is a film with actors. For example if the audience sees gun being fired but hear an alien zapper sound they will become disconnected from the film, realising that it is make believe where as if they hear a gunshot. They will develop a relationship between the characters thinking the situation is a real one.
In order to know what the conventional soundtrack is within a thriller film, we also have to think about what that thriller may be, for example, it could be a thriller opening , a trailer or an actual film. This is why i would need to describe all the different sounds that could be used within a thriller film to make it conventional. There are Non- diegetic sounds such as voice overs. These can be used to explain an event within the scene that wasn't shown to the audience. This is used to give that audience a better understanding of what happened , what's happening within the scene it also helps to create a suspense filled feeling as the audience are then able to determine what will happen next in the scene.
There are diegetic sounds such as the sounds from the TV or a radio which allows the audience to understand what is going on in the scene clearer , this is because the audience are subjected to realistic sounds which makes the scene intriguing for the audience to watch.
Finally, there are off- screen sounds such as footsteps which are used to build suspense tension for example creaking floor boards or a window smashing etc. All of the different types of conventional sounds used within a thriller film make it conventional to the thriller genre whether they are placed in the same film or are they placed in the same film or they are used throughout.
In order to create the soundtrack to our thriller, my group used programme called 'pro logic ' this program was used to selection of instruments that allowed us to use select sounds from the program. the program was difficult to use but we got used to it , it allowed us to create a successful and conventional soundtrack that worked perfectly with our thriller film.
The soundtrack that we created natural nosies of birds and background nosies that sound that could go together with our setting in order to have an impact for the audience. The reason why we decided to create on screen sound was that it was normal as the setting in a forest the sound made sense, we was inspired by the 'chainsaw' we decided to imitate the sound and utilize some of the sounds they used.

Post-production: Audience Feedback
Audience
feedback is important to see how effective
and successful my thriller film was, I screened my final outcome to an
audience. I wanted to analyse whether my thriller appealed to my target audience as well as
receive some feedback. The feedback was received in form of focus group. The
focus group helped me as it allowed me to get detailed feedback and
this could be done with providers
prompts.
Positive comments
Maya Scott aged 22 :’The setting and location worked very
well with the narrative’.
I think that this is a really successful point for my
thriller film as setting and location of a thriller is important to match the
narrative otherwise the target audience would have got confused.
Marcus Wilson aged 15 said :’ conventional lighting was used thought
the opening scene’
I agree with this comment as the low key lighting used throughout the
film to create atmosphere for the audience as well as creates a threatening effect for the innocent
female characters.
Tiffany Kiese aged 18 said ‘ The soundtrack was parallel sound
with the image on the screen.
I’m glad that the audience notice the soundtrack was
parallel which fitted well with the content of
thriller film because it is important
that sound is effective on the audience to create certain responses and
engage them into the film.
Constructive comments
Marcus Wilson aged 16 said ‘ A wider a range of angels could have been used’
I think that using
a wider a range of angels within my thriller would have been made it
look more professional and effective as the audience would have had a larger
view to the content of my thriller. I think that I should have used more closed
up that the audience could connect with
the situation in my thriller.

EvaluationQ5: How did you attract/ address your audience?
Secondary research is important as it gave us an idea of what
our target audience liked and what they liked seeing within their thriller so I
had to create a questionnaire find out about their preference of thriller. I
believe that the target audience of our thriller were 15 and onwards as it 40
year people can be interested in watching thriller as their lifestyle may be
activate it was based on both ethnicity
and its unisex as both male and female both liked watching thriller.
From my primary research I asked the target audience if
people enjoy being scared or if their like the idea of having antagonist how it
makes them feel more frightened as they like the idea of feeling scared this
will benefit the audience as its
conventional to have an antagonist. They
like seeing low key lighting and if their like an isolated location.
The audience that I wanted to attract was 15 and onwards as
they are more likely to be interested in thriller like the idea of the themes
and the characters represented within the film. In my primary research I had to
carry out a questionnaire this was important because it allowed me to know what
the target audience liked about their thrillers appeal to all ethnicity which
this appeal to most young student and adults who enjoys their thrillers and if
the enjoy going out to have fun as the some adults like watching thriller for
excitement and tension. From the research I have done I found out that the
audience like to feel scared and they also like to feel uncomfortable, the
audience liked interesting plot that kept them more in to the films and blow
their minds away, they also mentions that they liked the relevant themes as
that was the most important of making a thriller engaging for them to watch
thriller they clearly know what they like watching on their screen is important
for them. The audience tend to enjoy gruesome scene so that they feel like it’s
a thriller film.
Hobbies and Interests: horror genre socialising thriller
seekers cinemas, portray, drinking and relationships, friendships.
My questionnaires were relevant as it gave me an idea of what
genre I wanted to use. And the idea of what my group had in mind. It also
helped a lot has it gave me an central
feedback the questionnaire gave me one
quick back on what type of character I wanted to use within our thriller idea
as what people my age like about thriller in order to help us with our narrative.

This helped the target audience get a
clear understanding of what type questions their liked and what they wanted to
see in their thriller and this also helped me it gave me a better understanding
of what my target audience wanted.
EvaluationQ7: looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product.
The purpose of the prelminary task was to familarise me and my group with camera, tripod and editing. It also helped us to learn ow to use final cut as we had to edit the sequence we had filmed. This helped our groupto understand how to operate the camera and frames shots by trying to use cinematography. It also allowed us to identify group roles , for example in my group, everyone had a go of filming and,we and we then nominated one person to do each thing, for example, filming ,editing and acting.
Where my technical ability has improved :
Filming- has helped me understand the use of camera amd the capturing moments within the frames. This allowed me to get a better understanding of the differnt type of shots , for example i have lerant how to capture different sizes such as medium shots within my thriller.

Filming- As first i struggled with using the tripod by trying to put the camera in place , but now i,m able to use the tripod as now I know how to capture the shots as the tripod allows me to create cinematography such as panning shot well as capturing conventinaol shots such as close ups, i can now use over the shoulder shots effectively to make my thriller look more professional.
Editing - I have progressed from intial preminarly task in my ability to edit. When i first tried to edit , I struggled with cutting the shots within the actual shots and placing my selected shots together. Now I know how to place transitions into my thriller making the edits interesting and conventional compared to just using straight cuts. For example , my group and I added a fade to black to make my thriller looks more conventional to the genre.
Editing-The last technique i have been able to develop and use to edit the film and clips in order to make them flow and be more understandable for the audience.I admit that editing came with a bit of problems and complication ,however these problems didn't hold me back from trying my best to learn how to edit with hard work and practice.

Development from preliminary task
A storyboard was created in order for me to know to plan my film , and I realised the importance of this once i did my preliminary task. Before I could start filming I also had to create pre-production paperwork such as a location release, a client release form, location recce form, production schedule and a risk assessment sheet to ensure the safety of my production.
These documents were so that we were able to film and covered my group for legal risks. This research that was carried out it was essential in creating a successful thriller. All the research was key into helping my group understand elements of what a thriller was and of its conventions.

Evaluation Q1: in what ways does your media product use, developor challenge forms and conventionsof real media products?
Question1) in what ways does
your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real
media product.
The task
The task we were given was to create a two minute thriller
opening. At first, we were asked to participate in research work where we
looked at different types of micro elements such as cinematography, Mes en
scene as well as opening credits and characters representations. This helped me to
understand what type of conventions fit well for my thriller ideas of creating my our own thriller.
Once this was fully understood, we were put into a small
group of three or four with people of different specialities to ensure that the
group was equally balanced for a good production to take place we all had to come up with an small narrative to discuss what we narrative will be suitable for our group.
To help us develop our ideas, we had to create questionnaires
to find out our target audiences response and this then gave us an idea by
analysing the results so that we could get a clear idea of what the target
audience wanted to see in their screen.
We planned in small groups to ensure the production went
well, and the pre-production paper work enabled us to demonstrate that the
production would run smoothly so that we are able to shot our thriller.
Does my thriller follow conventions of a thriller?
Before filming our thriller I had to
look at the other thrillers in order to create a conventional and successful
thriller. This helped me to ensure that I was using and developing forms of
real media products, the thriller genre.
My thriller follows typical
conventions is similar to ‘Scream’ as we do not know who the antagonist is and
within my thriller, we don’t reveal our antagonist. Therefore our thriller does
follow this convention as it is common
for thrillers to play with the audiences mind so that they feel uncertain and
worried about the antagonist.

The location is conventional as the
area that we filmed our thriller was a deserted location. Our thriller was filmed
at Forty Halls where hardly anyone goes as it is large and quote scary. This is
conventional to thriller as most thriller locations are set in a place where no
one tends to go and it’s an isolated place.
From my research I found that the
location we used was conventional to thriller genre. Therefore, using this
location shows that I have developed the used of an isolated location that
creates fear amongst the audience.
The costumes will be conventional to other thrillers as the female victim will be wearing white and cream colours to match with the expectations we wanted the audience to have of her. For example, I found from my research of ‘Scream’ and ‘Prom Night’, both female victims wore a light coloured jumper to connote their innocence and purity.

Another way to show that I have used and developed the forms and conventions of real media products; I created a soundtrack to accompany my action. The sound connects with the content of a thriller because it sounds eerie and chilled to help build up tension in the scenes where the torture and kidnap happens.
I believe that the soundtrack is an
important element in films as it creates emotions and responses from the
audience and this was something I wanted to develop within my own work.
Some of my best uses of forms and conventions of a thriller:

My thriller Project slaughter
follows the generic conventions of a thriller film by the use of the torture
narrative as the torture scene creates emotions from the audience making them
feel uncomfortable and feel sympathetic for the character being tortured. There
is a horror of what they are watching which makes the audience feel
uncomfortable and this is something that was developed from existing thriller
narratives such as scream and prom night this helped me understand what i wanted my thriller to be like.
The uses of low key lighting throughout my
thriller also helped to indicate to the audience that it is a thriller. The
dark and mysterious light creates suspense to the film and makes the audience
feel on edge as thriller films should. Again,
this is something that I found was popular in thriller films so I also wanted
to use it within my own work.
The cinematography we chose to use
within our thriller is also conventional of thriller films such as the over the
shoulder shot. These shots were used in order to empathise with the character
when the unknown character appeared on the screen.
