The purpose of opening credits is to advertise, giving credits to those who took part in the production and it also outlines the major actors and crew members.
Opening credits tells the audience who the major actors or crew members are for example the soundtrack creator, director, producers that were involved in the making of the film, opening credits may be to honour the people that may have died during the production of the film.
How does opening credits makes the audience feel : opening credits are effective in films as the production are usually followed by soundtrack which automatically helps to build tensions towards the audience, images on the screens are often used in opening credits to make the audience questions if the its relevance in the actual film.
In the opening credits the audience are expected to see the names of the important actors within the production this is done as to influence the audience to watch the film, for example Brad Pitt would be attracted to the female audience they would want to watch the film because his starring on the film.

The opening credits of 'Se7en ' the names of the famous actors that starred in the film appearance on the screen this helps the audience to know who starred in the film as well as they become familiar with the mood of the film due to the actors that are in the film. The keyword used on the opening of se7en are such as 'Rape' transsexual ' and 'God' seen in the opening credits are there to confuse the audience, in some cases it is also there to relate to the narrative of the film.
The use of close up throughout the opening credits allows the audience to see the keywords on the newspaper like before as well as seeing the horrific disturbing images for example the audience see dirty finger nails and splatters of blood using these in the opening scene makes the audience feel slightly disturbed over the these images appearing in the screen, a pair of tweezers and a needle are used to get the audience to ask questions such as are they weapons? or are they used for evidence? this is conventional in a thriller film because the audience are expected to see this.
Low -key lighting and dark colours are used throughout the opening credits. The low key lighting makes the opening appear mysterious and disturbing when it is mixed with the dark colours and images shown constantly. The colour red is used frequently throughout the credits which may represent danger, death, these elements within the credits are conventional to a thriller film because a sense of suspense and tension is created throughout the audience.
Finally the slow disturbing soundtrack soundtracks added to the opening credits creates suspense among the audience and it makes them feel disturbed when they hear a metal scratching together or the turning of a radio. This is also conventional to a thriller genre as it gives the audience an insight on the mood of the rest of the film.
opening credits confuses the audience by catching their attention and making them ask question through their minds about what they are seeing on screen and how does it relate to film. The opening credits scene has helped me to come up with a conventional and an effective idea as now I have got a clear idea on what elements I will use in order to build up tension and suspense to confuse the audience.
Good discussion on opening credits and some on typography. 'Seven' is looked at in some detail and with some analysis. The purpose and aims of credits are also discussed well.
